In the mesmerizing city of Agra is the place which welcomes
the morning sun. Located towards the east of city centre is located
Etmadpur area. River Yamuna runs through Agra mainland and the
region east of Agra consists of Etmadpur. The tehsil of Etmadpur is
an important commercial centre. The industrial estate of Etmadpur is
an important contributor of the economy. The place has many leather
producing units. The regions is an important leather exporting
region in Agra. The prime tourist attractions of the region include
Rambagh, Itmad-ud-daulah, Chini-ka-Rauza.
The Rambagh Gardens are located towards the north-west of Etmadpur,
close to river Yamuna. The Rambagh Gardens which are popular as
Bagh-i-Gul Afshan were founded by the founders of the mughal empire,
Babur. The terraced garden is provided with the cascading water from
river Yamuna. The verdant lawns provided with fountains, stairs,
pavilions and elevated platforms makes it a favourite tourist place.
The tomb of Itmad-ud-Daulah was built by Queen Nurjahan, wife of
mughal emperor Jahangir. It entombs Nurjahan's parents Mirza Ghiyas
Beg and Asmat Begum. The tomb resembles Taj Mahal in many aspects
like provision of garden, marble work and geometrical designs. Each
corner of the tomb is provided with a minaret. The place has a
number of collections that makes the trip to the place a worthy one.
The place is a couple of kilometres away from Taj Mahal.
Chini-ka-Rauza is located in Etmadpur precincts and is about a
kilometer or more from Itmad-ud-Daulah's tomb. The tomb is the
resting place for Allama Afzal Khan Mullah, a minister in the court
of mughal emperor Shah Jahan. The structure is rectangular in shape
provided with the dome in the centre. The walls and dome is covered
with colorful tiles and decorated with tantalizing inlay work.
